The Historical Studies Club welcome their new members!
Hi everyone! We hope you all have enjoyed the summer because school is back and it is time to do some work… And we at the Historical Studies Club have planned an year full of exciting academic and social interactions for you, in hopes we can all have enjoyable and fulfilling school year here at UTM… Our Aim: The club is here to provide an informal setting within which those students studying history, classics and religion can come together in our inter-disciplinary department. In the long run, we hope that every single member will have the opportunity to interact in a social space with an academic bent to it. Our History : A little bit of history on our historical studies club. The first open house was held on 8 February 2005 where students and faculty exchanged ideas. Many interested students signed up as members. The club, which excited students from different years, is in the process of gaining official recognition from SAC. Some Plans: Our major aim this year is to increase our visibility on campus, through a series of events to popularize the club among junior and senior students. To that extent we have organized social events that include:
'Meet the faculty’ and ‘meet the department’ nights
Movie nights, which examine the intersection between history and film that will include discussions on the films/directors led by a panel of faculty and students. Lecture/teach-in series on the theme of ‘History and Global Politics’, where members will have the opportunity to attend a short lecture on a popular issue or historical event administered by a renown scholar and be encouraged to ask questions and engage on meaningful discussion. All activities planned for the following academic year are based on the interests and suggestions of the students themselves and we hope, therefore, that such activities will nourish their enthusiasm for historical studies, further their intellectual development, and raise their political awareness. We would also like to thank to thank the Historical Department for helping us develop our first news letter. |
